The moment the room changes

There’s a moment at every event that never gets old for me.

Everyone’s chatting, glasses are clinking, people are finding their seats and catching up with family and friends. Then my voice starts.

I look up, smile at the room and gently encourage people to listen. Before long, someone nudges the person next to them. I see people start singing along, swaying to the music or clapping without even realising they’re doing it. The room becomes a little quieter, but somehow feels even more alive.

That, for me, is one of the best parts of being a live singer.

It’s human connection.

I love creating moments where people come together through music. Whether you’re belting out your favourite song, quietly humming along to a tune you haven’t heard in years, or simply smiling because a lyric brings back a special memory, that’s where the magic happens.

Those are the moments I live for.

I’ve been lucky enough to perform at weddings, private parties, corporate events and celebrations of all kinds, and every single one is different. Every audience has its own personality, which is why I never approach two events in exactly the same way. I read the room, adapt to the atmosphere and make sure the music feels like it belongs to your day, not just my set list.

Of course, it helps that I get paid to do something I genuinely love, but the money has never been the reason I do this.

Seeing people connect with each other, watching loved ones share a dance, hearing everyone sing together and knowing I’ve played a small part in those memories is what makes this job so special. Years later, I can still remember some of my favourite audiences and the incredible atmosphere we created together.

That’s something I’ll never take for granted.
